Week in Review: Stress Eating, Bordeaux Lips, and Gradient Nails

Ooops, I did it again. Nope, I’m not going to go Britney on you guys but I’m sorry for being MIA for almost two weeks. A lot of things are happening at work (coordinating for an event) and my grandma was hospitalized for a week (thanks to everyone who are praying for her fast recovery) so writing had to take a backseat for a while. My new header (oh look up the page! Do you like it?) inspired me, though, to get down to business and write a post. Hey, I’m never getting momentum again if I don’t start now, right? 🙂

Stress Eating

As I’ve mentioned, a lot is going on and that always produces some kind of STRESS for me. And you know me, my “cat-ness” is more Garfield-ish – I resort to eating. Guilty as charged. I share with you this week’s guilty pleasures, you just mightwant to try one for yourself. 🙂

Oh please raise your hand if you didn’t have these snacks even just once in your lunchbox back in grade school!

Marchin’ up at Army Navy – Taft

You know what they say in Filipino, “ang may pinagsaluhan sa hapagkainan ay mayroong pinagsamahan”? I’m not sure about the exact English translation (to stay true to the expression’s context) but basically it’s about relationships being built over meals shared. Would you agree?

I have lots of fond memories at Army Navy, a burger+burrito place with a cool atmosphere that always manages to give off a weekend vibe (even on a weekday lunch break! \m/). I’ve been there with a lot of people in my life save for my parents and a few friends. I’m glad that I ‘broke bread’ with new friends tonight in none other than…*drumroll please*…Army Navy!

*Bring out the photos!*

Excited About: Dinner at Barbara’s with Cultural Show :)

Exciting days ahead! 🙂 J is celebrating his birthday soon while mine is only two weeks away! Yippeeee! Before I get ahead of myself, let me just share with you what I’m looking forward to next week.

Presenting the Dinner Buffet and Cultural Dance Show at Barbara’s in Intramuros!

For all the Manileña in me, I’ve never been to Intramuros until early this year (I’ve been a Manila girl since I was 2!). My friend and I visited several museums around the area and ended the afternoon with a merienda at Barbara’s. Little did I know that several months after that, a great deal would come our way and lookie, we would get to enjoy the dinner buffet and cultural dance show for only 250 pesos per head. I ♥ good deals. *twinkling eyes*

I hope both the food and show will be good. You can be sure that the Curious Cat will write about it here. 🙂 *meow*

First Taste: Ukkokei Ramen Ron

Ukkokei Lunch Set C

One’s love for food is nurtured not just by oneself but also by the company that one keeps.

I’m blessed to have colleagues at work who share my passion for yummy food. 🙂

We found ourselves one lunch break in Ukkokei Ramen Ron, a quaint Japanese restaurant in Mabini corner Quirino. It has another branch in Makati, I believe. I haven’t eaten in the other branch but I wanted to find out if Ukkokei would become one of our go-to places for lunchtime comfort food.

March Food Trip!

“One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.”
~Luciano Pavarotti and William Wright, Pavarotti

Ah, food. It lights up my eyes! 🙂 I’m such a foodie and all of my friends know that, I think. Hehe. I love to eat. And can i just say it again, I really love to eat. 😀 I think 80% of my mobile uploads in Facebook are food photos. Heehee!

So without further ado, I present to you my gastronomic conquests (lol) for the month of March.

Xiao Long Pao from Sze Chuan House

Discovered this gem of a restaurant just a street away from our office. Good food, reasonable prices and efficient service. I daresay the food is comparable to Emerald Garden! 🙂 The xiao long pao is a little too big for my taste though. I can’t eat it in a single bite, that’s how big it is (or how small my mouth is). And just a tip: eat it while it’s hot and as soon as it’s served.

Try their Sze Chuan Chicken too, it’s the best I’ve tried there so far. 🙂 Will definitely be back to order other dishes.

Sze Chuan House is in Aloha Hotel along the service road in Roxas Boulevard and across Ospital ng Maynila with ample parking space for its customers. They are open 11:00 am to 2:30 pm and 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm everyday.

Torta di Ricotta-Salsa di Caramello (?) from Cibo

My officemates and I went to Manila FAME this month at SMX (different post for that) and had a quick bite in Cibo for lunch. I ordered a tuna sandwich since I couldn’t make up my mind which pasta to order. The sandwich is surprisingly good and this is from someone who doesn’t like to eat bread. But I digress, the highlight was the dessert we ordered. I’m not sure if it’s Cibo’s Torta di Ricotta-Salsa di Caramello (heehee, sorry i forgot the name!). It was a cheesecake topped with caramel glaze and grapes on the side. Yum! The sweet-sour tang of the grapes matched the velvety smoothness of the cheesecake and the sweetness of the caramel. Eccellente!

Dalandan Juice from Cibo

I heart Cibo. Even they drinks are eccellente! Tried the dalandan juice because I was trying to chase away the sniffles. A bit pricey for a juice but worth every peso! 🙂 It tastes like freshly squeezed dalandan (no ready to drink formulas) with just the right amount of sweetness and the right amount of ice.

Lemon Yakult Milk Tea from SIP

SIP Milk Tea opens in SM Manila! So far, I’ve tried Lemon Yakult Tea and Handmade Taro Tea. The verdict? 5 stars! Lemon Yakult has real lemon slices which gives it an authentic lemon zest. 🙂 Handmade Taro, on the other hand, is for those who like a sweeter drink. Oh and I love their pearls, so chewy! Lol. 😀 So looking forward to try other variants.

Visit their website at or Facebook page at You may also follow them on Twitter, @sipmilktea.

I really should be more diligent in posting my photos. I talk way too much for one post! Lol. Cibo, Sip and Sze Chuan House for March. Not bad. I’m excited for April! 🙂

How about you, did you have a gastronomic experience this month?

[Tumblr Photo Challenge for February] Days 2-6

Photo dump coming right up! 😀 Photos I posted for Days 2-6 the February Tumblr Photo Challenge.

Day 2: Words

“Life may be marred into a broken thing but God can make it into a thing of beauty.” – Treasure in Clay

One of the most beautiful passages in then-Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s autobiography.

Bad experiences, wrong choices, unwise decisions – all of these can break us but the Potter can always remold us jars of clay into, maybe not a Ming vase, but an equally beautiful clay pot.

Food Coma

Ze boyfriend and I met up for dinner. Finally! ❤ He’s been working in the province for quite some time now and his long working hours often make it hard for him to come home to the metro. (So you see girls, be thankful if you’re lucky enough to see your special someone on a fairly regular basis.)

So I was happy, wait, ecstatic, to see him again after quite some time. He just spent the whole day hard at work and with only one meal in his tummy. Terrible! So we did the next best thing – pig out! 😀
